Heatwave is over!
Almost everyone in North America has experienced unusually high temperatures over the past few weeks, California no exception. Where we live it's already very hot in the summer, so any additional heat becomes extreme. We broke all kinds of records for consecutive days over 110F (43C), etc. There have been over 140 deaths attributed to the heat, most of them in the Central Valley where we live. Hundreds of cattle have died. And, some tree crops will suffer.
It's starting to cool down now. Tomorrow the high will only be 87F (30C).
Bring out the down comforters!

Announcement
More big news from our family:
I announced to my congregation today that I am resigning as their Pastor as of October 31st. This was a very difficult decision, as we truly love the people here. Nevertheless, I am convinced that the timing is right for them to obtain a new pastor better suited to their current and future needs.
On November 1st I will become the Area Administrator for the Pacific Northwest Association of the Church of God, overseeing a district comprised of 50 churches in Washington, northern Idaho, and northeastern Oregon.
For the sake of the boys in college here we will not immediately move out of Hanford.
We are excited about the new opportunities ahead of us, but we do appreciate your prayers in the coming months as we experience all this change in our lives.
Andrew is 18!

Today is a big day for Andrew! He joins adulthood, making us now a family entirely of adults.
At 4:00pm a number of his friends are coming over for cake, and a party.
You are all invited!

Canteloupe & My Garden
I think Lloyd will upload the picture of my first canteloupe in our garden. I see there are 8 more coming and it looks like they will be spaced pretty evenly for eating. My beans are starting to flower, but the plants are looking like they're scorched. I keep them watered well, but despite the package saying full sun, I think in this heat they'd prefer some shade for a little while each day. The lettuce is ready and the green peppers are quite sturdy plants now. I noticed all the top leaves are gone on one of the plants but I'm not sure what ate them. We have apples on our tree and I found some other kind of fruit, perhaps a persimmon on another tree. I'll have to wait and see. It's time to check and see if any more of the figs have ripened. There around the side of the porch in front, a spot I don't get to very often.

Fresno Chaffee Zoo
Today Lloyd and I went with our friends, Theresa & Mike Farmer (Madera Church of God Pastor) to the Fresno Chaffee Zoo. It was a wonderful outing and I thought the highlight was the winged Bird Show. They had white homing pigeons, African crowned cranes, Owl, Condor, white necked raven, parrots and macaws and all sorts of beautiful and exotic birds. They all flew - some right over our heads and we thought we were going to get shaved by the condor! They had several giraffes, Asian elephants (of course), anteaters, kangaroos, alligators, flamingos, tigers and all sorts of God's wonderful creatures. It was great fun!

Another driver
Finally, just 2 weeks before turning 18, Andrew obtained his driver's license today! Now we have a completely independently mobile family.

My new shoes
Since there isn't much else to report on, I decided to show you the new shoes I bought this past weekend.
Gravity Pope on Whyte Ave was having a Warehouse Sale, so Curtis, Ryan, and I decided to check it out. I was the only one who ended up buying anything, but I am quite happy with my purchase.
These shoes were regularly $160 and I got them on clearance for $50.

In other news, my computer died again. This time it's the screen that stopped working, and as much as I figured I could get by without the screen working, you just can't. I really don't like Macs...

24 years!
Today, Lloyd and I celebrate 24 years of wedded bliss! Okay -while it hasn't all been "perfect", I am blessed and privileged to be married to such a wonderful man. I thank God every day for him and our terrific family. We have been blessed in so many ways, not the least of which is God's daily leading and guidance in our lives. I am so grateful for his love and care each day.
24 years ago today we celebrated with our families and friends the beginning of our life together and I look forward to many, many more! I love you, Lloyd!
