My week as a Klutz!

Somehow, this week I've been prone to hurting myself. It started on Monday when my chair threw me into the desk and onto the floor. I know, it sounds hard to believe, but as I was rolling my chair forward the wheels caught on something. Because of the speed with which I was pulling the chair forward, the chair tipped throwing me into the desk and I landed on the floor. I have bruises along my right shoulder and upper arm and on my butt where I landed on the chair arm. Ouch.I could hardly move. So I finally went to the chiropractor yesterday and my hips, mid-back and neck were out. (Like I didn't know!) He said I was also very close to having whiplash. At one point he said, "And now I'm going to put your head back on your neck!" I have to go back to see him on Friday and Monday. I'll be ready for it too.

Today, I took a stack of more than 3 reams of paper and flipped it over on the desk - unfortunately I smashed two of my knuckles on the side of the desk, looks like I broke at least 1 blood vessel. By the way, that was about 1600 sheets of paper, which is pretty heavy! I'm not looking forward to what may happen next... you know they say things happen in 3's. It's good I'm not superstitious!

My Packet Came

Since I got accepted to APU I have been waiting for my admissions packet to come. It took a long time to get here, but it arrived yesterday. It has my housing deposit form, tuition depost form and health forms and all that stuff in it. I have to send in my deposits as soon as possible, especially for housing because apparently it is limited.

My Refrigerator Finally Arrives!

It's almost hard to believe. On January 7th our fridge went on the fritz (see the blog from Lloyd around that date) and since then we've had 3 appliance repair visits and a month waiting for the approval from Best Buy to replace the fridge and then another week till they got the approval sent to the right store so we could go in and choose a new fridge and then one more week waiting for it to be delivered. Needless to say, I'm thrilled with the new refrigerator. It appears to have more room even though it has the same cubic footage (26) as the other one. It's so nice to turn around and have access to whatever I need. You sure realize how much you depend on those things!

Spring Break

Spring Break has arrived and the house is full of young men. (Our boys and their friends). We had the youth stay over this past Friday night as they were doing the 30 hour famine to raise money for World Vision. We will be joining the Hanford community of Christians for a Good Friday service and our church is having an Easter breakfast and program at 9:00 am. I'm looking forward to it. As I get older I realize just how exciting Resurrection Sunday is for us. May God bless you!

Beautiful sight

Looking out out backyard, and especially from our second-floor loft window there is a beautiful sight behind one of the houses on the opposite side of the drainage basin that is behind our house. There are thousands of these gorgeous purple flowers that simply dazzle. Kathy wanted me to take a picture, but unfortunately, the picture doesn't do it justice.

Long Day

Well it is 7:00pm right now, that means I have been awake now for almost 16 hours.

Yeah, I woke up at 3:30am this morning. But for a good cause. Today is Kid's Day in Fresno. The Fresno Bee (the newspaper here in Fresno) takes one day a year where it donates all proceeds from newspaper sales to the Children's Hospital here. It is a special Kid's Day edition, with a special insert and all. What different groups from many different places do is sell as many papers as they can. Friendly competitions between companies ensue, to see who can sell the most newspapers. One of the best ways that people have found to sell papers is to wait at intersections to sell to cars as they stop at a red light.

Now, when groups are competing, they obviously want the best locations (intersections). For some of the biggest and busiest intersections, people actually camp out to make sure their group has that spot. So this brings me to the reason why I was up so early this morning. I went to our intersection at 4:15am this morning to make sure our group was able to secure the location. We had a secondary intersection, by no means a major one, and I think we ended up raising about $250 (recommended price for each paper is $1).

On my way back to school (which was about 2 1/2 miles away) at 7:15am, every single intersection I drove through except one had tons of people at each corner and on the medians selling papers. Really an amazing sight. Very interesting to drive in Fresno on Kid's Day. Now I understand why people put their newspaper ontop of their dashboard after they purchase their Kid's Day edition, otherwise you get many, many people trying to sell you one.

I probably won't get to bed until 10:00 tonight, because I am playing some innertube water polo intramurals.

Happy Kids Day!

Long break and short trips

Some of you may know that I only have classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays this semester. It's pretty nice because I have four day weekends. Well over the next few weeks this schedule is going to come in very handy. Spring break is from the 21-25 of March, and Cesar Chavez day is the 31st of March. What this means is during an almost 3 week period I will have only 1 day of class. It is quite amazing really.

With all this free time, I am taking a number of short trips. This coming Thursday, March 17, (St. Patrick's Day) I am heading off to San Francisco for the day. My University is building a brand new Student Recreation Center, and one of the committees I am on for it is deciding what fitness equipment to buy. LifeFitness is actually paying for my committee to take a trip up to San Francisco to go to the IHRSA convention (International Health & Racquet Sport Association). It will be really fun because we can try out all the fitness equipment.

Then on Cesar Chavez day I am going to Los Angeles with a bunch of friends to again try my luck at the Price is Right. Stay posted to find out when to watch the show to see me!

Article Number Five

Well, after a little bit of a break from publishing anything in the newspaper, I present you my fifth article! Keep in mind with this one that not everything I have in here I actually believe in. I am into saving the environment, but this is probably not (or even definitely not) the way to do it. I write articles with a little bit of a lighter side for my editor.

Have a great day!!!

I got my computer back

On the 26th of February my computer crashed on me. It just wouldn't work. I was lucky enough to access it just long enough to back-up all my important files. I got my computer back yesterday afternoon, and it is really nice to have it back. They gave me a loaner computer to use in the mean time, but I felt disconnected without my computer. Mainly because things like my calendar with all my appointments and other stuff I didn't have on my loaner. Plus all 13 days of music I have on here.

Another week gone....

It doesn't seem possible that another week has gone by. It's a much quieter weekend and I'm enjoying getting things done around the house. Luke and I went out to the tennis courts again. I love the feel of the ball bouncing off the racquet.

On the News

As I was walking from the Library to my dorm, my friend and I were approached by a camera crew from CBS Channel 47 news. They asked us a few questions regarding the recent firing of our Women's Basketball coach. Low and behold both my friend and I got on the 11 o'clock news last night.

I have now been on Radio, Television, and in the Newspaper this semester. I think I am almost famous.
