Vacation Update I

I know. I know. We've been negligent in posting during our vacation. As you have/will read in Kathy's posting, it's been a busy week or so. Luke, Andrew and I left Hanford by car on June 15th for our 3 day journey to Ontario. I had to do all the driving because we are using a rental car (KIA Optima) and I am the only driver at least 25 years old. We had a good trip, getting ahead of schedule everyday. The final day (June 17th) we were on the road for 18 hours! During this final day we picked up Jonathan in Detroit (he flew in) and we headed for Kitchener in preparation for Kathy's parents' 50th Anniversary celebrations Saturday and Sunday. During this week we stayed in a cabin at the campground where Kathy's parents live, and have been busy every day visiting family, etc. Tuesday we did some vacation "stuff" in Toronto, seeing the Hockey Hall of Fame and going to a Blue Jays baseball game. While we are taking advantage of the opportunities available to us to visit family, on a personal note I was anticipating that I would get more reading done. Not this week. Tomorrow (Friday the 24th) we start our trip back, visiting some of my family in Detroit.
We will try to keep you better informed of things over the next week or so. We will also try to post some pictures (we've taken tons!) when we have the opportunity!

I've been in Ontario for almost 2 weeks and having a wonderful time with my family. The 50th Anniversary celebrations last weekend were awesome. It was great to see so many members of my family. On Sunday there were 120 from the Steckle side of the family and 6 from the Erb side. Most of the Erb's were at the dinner on Saturday night. We took many family pictures some of which we will post on the blog later.

On Tuesday, we went to Toronto to see the NHL Hockey Hall of Fame and then to a Blue Jays game against the Baltimore Orioles. Unfortunately, the Blue Jays lost. Mom & Dad and Doug, Gisela, Elisabeth and Rebecca were able to join us at the game.

Wednesday we travelled to the Zurich area to visit my Aunt Carol & Uncle Dave at their greenhouses and then on to Ken & Ginny's where the 3 boys spent an hour or so riding horses. Of course they spent an hour or two tacking them too. Then it was off to the other side of Dashwood to visit my cousin Mary Ellen, Gerry and their family. We had a great time talking and reminiscing. That's when the fun began. We were just about out of gas and decided to drive to Exeter to fill up, but apparently they close at 10PM. We decided to drive to Grand Bend because they are a tourist town - both gas stations - closed! So by that time we didn't have enough gas to go anywhere else, called Ken, they stopped and got 5 gallons of gas at Uncle Dave's and met us at Tim Horton's in the Bend. So instead of being back in Thamesford at 11:30, we didn't get home until 1:35 AM. The good thing is that we got to see Ken & Ginny one more time before our final goodbye.

Today we drove to Kitchener and met my brother Doug's family and went to my Great, Great, Great Grandfathers homestead. It is a heritage site and has been preserved as an agricultural education site for all who come to visit. It was wonderful to be there, as I'd never gone before. We had dinner with Doug, Gisela, Elisabeth and Rebecca and are just enjoying our last moments before saying good-bye.

Tomorrow it's off to Detroit to visit the cousins there. Only one week till I get to see my little Yoshi.

Kathy leaves

The male Moritz's are experiencing chaos and mayhem with Kathy leaving for Ontario Saturday evening. She's off to play with her family while we work diligently back in hot California. But it will only be until this coming Saturday when we reunite. Luke, Andrew and I are driving out, leaving Wednesday morning. We will pick up Jonathan in Detroit at the airport on the way.

So this morning I woke up at 7:00am (I know, early eh?) and went jogging. Now that I have an iPod it seems like I am more anxious to do stuff like that. I can be listening to my sweet tunes anytime I want now!

I've really been getting into this cooking thing too. I was yearning to make something this morning, so I made myself a bowl of fresh strawberries, and omelet, and some toast. It was really good.

My Bird Friend

So about a month ago I was trying to nurse a bird back to health. Here is a video I took, and that was finally put up on the internet. You'll find out the whole story in the video, so I won't give too much away here. Just click on the picture to watch the video. (6.5mb | 00:51)

Just a follow up, the bird ended up not making it. I named him Constance.

One Week To Go..........

I'm very excited that one week from Saturday (on June 11th) I will be flying to Toronto to see my family. Then on the 18th we will have two superfantabulous parties to celebrate their 50 years of marriage!

Cooking Part Deux

Ok, so today I spent like 3 or 4 hours cooking, even though the chicken recipe said "easy" it took quite a while to do everything.

Both courses (the entree and the dessert) turned out very well, but you don't have to take my word for it, ask anyone here who ate it. My favorite was the dessert, it was very simple to make and yet it tasted VERY good.

Here is a picture of the Spinach and Ricotta-Stuffed Chicken Breasts with Lemony White Wine Sauce

And here is a picture of the Strawberry Panna Cotta

(Click on the pictures to see larger versions)

If you decide to try any of these recipes, let me know how they turn out and if you liked them.

Now that I am back at home for a few months, I have been cooking a lot more. In fact I am the primary cook for the next couple of weeks. Last night I made Chili Verde and it turned out quite well. The night before last I made a Baked Ziti recipe, it also was quite good. Tomorrow I have big plans for a really good meal. For dinner I am planning to make Spinach and Ricotta-Stuffed Chicken Breasts with Lemony White Wine Sauce, and for dessert a Strawberry Panna Cotta. I am really looking forward to both making these recipes, as well as tasting them. Mmmmmm... Hopefully I will take pictures of the food and post them sometime this weekend.
