I've been in Ontario for almost 2 weeks and having a wonderful time with my family. The 50th Anniversary celebrations last weekend were awesome. It was great to see so many members of my family. On Sunday there were 120 from the Steckle side of the family and 6 from the Erb side. Most of the Erb's were at the dinner on Saturday night. We took many family pictures some of which we will post on the blog later.
On Tuesday, we went to Toronto to see the NHL Hockey Hall of Fame and then to a Blue Jays game against the Baltimore Orioles. Unfortunately, the Blue Jays lost. Mom & Dad and Doug, Gisela, Elisabeth and Rebecca were able to join us at the game.
Wednesday we travelled to the Zurich area to visit my Aunt Carol & Uncle Dave at their greenhouses and then on to Ken & Ginny's where the 3 boys spent an hour or so riding horses. Of course they spent an hour or two tacking them too. Then it was off to the other side of Dashwood to visit my cousin Mary Ellen, Gerry and their family. We had a great time talking and reminiscing. That's when the fun began. We were just about out of gas and decided to drive to Exeter to fill up, but apparently they close at 10PM. We decided to drive to Grand Bend because they are a tourist town - both gas stations - closed! So by that time we didn't have enough gas to go anywhere else, called Ken, they stopped and got 5 gallons of gas at Uncle Dave's and met us at Tim Horton's in the Bend. So instead of being back in Thamesford at 11:30, we didn't get home until 1:35 AM. The good thing is that we got to see Ken & Ginny one more time before our final goodbye.
Today we drove to Kitchener and met my brother Doug's family and went to my Great, Great, Great Grandfathers homestead. It is a heritage site and has been preserved as an agricultural education site for all who come to visit. It was wonderful to be there, as I'd never gone before. We had dinner with Doug, Gisela, Elisabeth and Rebecca and are just enjoying our last moments before saying good-bye.
Tomorrow it's off to Detroit to visit the cousins there. Only one week till I get to see my little Yoshi.
