It's cold here!
I know most of you will say we're just soft, but our weather has been cold the last few weeks. Many people believe that California is the land of surf and sun, and that the weather here is consistently idyllic. Wrong. Sure, southern California has nice weather, but California is a big state (in fact there are parts of northern California that are further north than the most southern point in Canada!). We're in the middle - in Central California - and we get four distinct seasons. OK, "summer" is the longest, and "winter" is the shortest but we do get a taste of winter. We live in the San Joaquin valley surrounded by mountains on almost all sides, which puts us right in the middle of a big "bowl". In winter we get lots of fog because of the stagnant cool air mixing with the moisture. In the last week we have been overcast most days, with fog throughout the day on a few occasions. While we almost never get snow in Hanford, it can feel like winter with everything so white because of the fog. The addition of COLD weather affirms our sensations. How cold is it? Today we hit a high of 40F (5C), and it should freeze tonight at 30F (-1C). Don't you feel sorry for us?
